Purpose
The San Juan Heat Exposure Index Map indicates the normalized (between low (0) and high (1)) spatial concentration (density) of the population most exposed to high surface temperatures.
Description
The San Juan Heat Exposure Index Map was created using total population density from the ACS 2012 5-Year estimates and the Landsat 8 surface temperature 10 date average from 2014 (1/28/14, 3/17/14, 4/18/14, 5/4/14, 7/7/14, 8/8/14, 9/9/14, 10/27/14, 11/28/14, 12/30/14) (“Surface Temperature” * “Total Population”) and indexing values between 0 (low) and 1 (high).
The 2001 National Land Cover was used to determine population residence.
